STEEL

Steel does not contribute to fire propagation; however, it loses its load-bearing strength at a certain temperature. The temperature at which this happens is called the critical steel temperature.

Buildings erected around a steel construction that have not had a fire-retardant treatment will collapse very quickly in case of fire. In order to avoid or delay collapse for a given period of time, steel can be treated with HCA WL STEEL, an intumescent coating. Depending on the section factor and the critical steel temperature a fire resistance of up to 3 hours can herewith be achieved.
